Ellen Sander's poetry has been published in Saturday Afternoon Journal, Social Anarchism, Chiron Review, and the Bolinas Hearsay News, among others. Readings have been sponsored by cafes, bookstores and literary foundations in northern and southern California and New York. Right now, I'm in more of a writing and less of a reading mode, but when readings start again, I'll post a schedule.

California Poems

Milky Circles

The baby
touches her breast as he suckles
tiny palm stroking
eyes wide on mama
rocking on her sweetness
cuddles baby closer
the milky circle warming

the night in speckled freshness
writes letters to heaven in sprays of stars
2 restless girls squat and slip panties
back to pee on the beach
lifting their eyes up as the hiss and trickle
join the surf's splashback and they laugh

Here is a poem not published elsewhere. It's new, in progress and inspired by a bodacious birthday party that Michael Simmons threw for Jack Kerouac last Spring. You wouldn't believe the Beats in L.A....then again...

spring in ellay

nor rain
das bunds
est alien greenery
sancto sanctorum nor heaters rusty
tongue tar pits
sovay dat corrango lust acumen
late nights imported
from new york
and lazy arms
lying legs
akimbo
tangential
jacaranda
mem,ries
all over the car
